mission statement

Our mission is to proclaim the gospel and make disciples of all people (Matthew 28:19) — by seeking first the Kingdom of God. (Matthew 6:33) We surrender to the transforming work of the Holy Spirit, which changes us from the inside out. (Galatians 5:22-26) (Romans12:2) We commit to live in authentic community, sharing both joys and hardships, as we grow closer to Jesus Christ (Philippians 2) —the only Way, the Truth, and the Life. (John 14:6)

Pastor (J)eshurun & Aster nu’u

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

We are the Nu’u family.

Pastor Jay was born in San Francisco, CA. For part of his childhood he was raised in Compton, CA. In 2002 at the age of 9 his family moved to Grandview, MO. They eventually moved to Independence, MO where he was raised majority of his life.

Aster was born in Kansas City, MO and raised in Grandview, MO. From kindergarten she attended Meadowmere Elementary School, Grandview Middle School & graduated from Grandview High School.

We started dating in 2009. After knowing each other for 13 years and dating for 6 years of that — we got married in 2015. Our miracle baby girl, Seta came in 2022. Today we have been married for 10 years and counting.

Growing up both of our parents were Pastors leading ministries. We were raised in the church all our lives and also have seen all sides of ministry firsthand.

We never pictured ourselves to be here following in their footsteps, although God did. We are thankful our parents raised us to know the Lord & to have a foundation for our faith that was planted in our early childhood.

We often use to wonder what our “come to Jesus” miracle story was. Sometimes we felt inadequate because we don’t have a miracle story to share that God saved us from the streets or God saved us from this and that. The truth is we had good childhoods, upbringings, and young adulthoods—not perfect but good.

Because of our parents, we grew up knowing God. There was never a question if he was real or not for us. He was always a part of our lives. We knew him. The miracle story is that he kept us. He kept us from birth until now. Even in seasons of wandering off he still kept us. (We would love to share our testimony with you.)

The miracle story for us now is that our lives have changed dramatically since we have FULLY SURRENDERED to saying YES to his calling.

For years God would send visions, thoughts, & dreams to both of us about leading a ministry. For years we would laugh, say never, and ignore it. We were the faithful servers at church who wanted nothing to do with leading anything but just to serve faithfully in the background and backend of everything. Until we were prompted with the question, “Are you guys ready to take over?”  It was by no coincidence or no mistake this question was being asked. We began to tremble at the thought of how God has already shown us and here it was.

Suddenly there was a shift for us. We began to feel that running, avoiding, and ignoring this calling was coming to an end. It was as if we were at a crosswalk having the weight of making a decision to continue to go on about it our way or to be obedient to what we knew in our hearts was Jesus calling us.

His question was will you answer? After much human processing our answer was Yes. — Yes, we will — but saying yes to Jesus is not a one and done thing. It’s a daily YES. It’s a hourly YES. It’s a minutely YES. It’s an every second YES. No matter what it cost us, we have given Jesus our yes to whatever he asks of us. He is worthy of it all. He is worthy to the count the cost of saying yes to him.

Jesus is calling. Will you answer?
